Home Office Makeover

This office update will be the third time we've updated this room since we moved into the home in 2019. Why are we updating again? We've been gradually replacing all the carpet and trim in the house, and it's time for the office. Why not update the entire thing?

I decided to go for a calming, soothing look because I spend much time in this room, and your environment can influence your feelings. I want to feel low stress.

I had to examine what was calming for me to make this happen. I kept thinking about the Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring when Frodo awakens in Rivendell. See the YouTube link here. Notice in this scene how all colors are muted and neutral. Even the cast's clothing is muted and calm with many shades of beige, white and other muted colors. So, this was my inspiration.

Decorating in neutrals like this was hard for me. I learned that adding detail (like the wainscoting), contrast with a wood furniture piece, and some textures seemed to give the depth that I crave.

Updated relaxing home office. New floors, new windows, new wainscotting, peel and stick grasscloth wallpaper, new chest of drawers and rug. Inspiration: The feeling and colors from LOTR Fellowship of the Ring scene in Rivendell when Frodo wakes up.

Black windows, relaxing zen home office, dog bed, neutral home office.
Updated relaxing home office. Love our new black windows. Such a great statement in every room.

I love the marble top of this chest of drawers. It's so beautiful.

No regrets about this update! I am loving the vibe. It feels good to be in the room especially with some some music playing in the background.

Oh and a happy note.. on conference calls the window behind me isn't causing any issues. This is because it's a north facing window that doesn't get much sun.

Hope you're enjoying your home office as much as I am mine.

Happy decorating!
