I am told that a front door says a lot about the people that live there. I suppose it does. It often tells you if they'll accept solicitors, if they have a dog, if they take care of their home or not. It also tells you if they have a labeling obsession. Hey I am not going to judge as we in fact do own 2 label makers and a Cricut that I use on the regular. But I've never went so nuts as to put a label on the front of my house that says "home". ha ha ha ha ha
So back to us. This was our front door. What does it say about us?
I am thinking it says we don't like solicitors, we need new windows, and that we're just kind of boring. We HAVE to make some changes. But what should we do? Are there affordable changes we could make that would give this a bit more personality?
I am happy we decided to go with a black door and mailbox that I pained with with some Rustoleum paint I already had on hand.
We also installed a little bumblebee door knocker that I am in love with! You can't see that in this pic due to the glare but you can see it via the link. I mean we had to get it right? We are the "maker bees" after all. Besides the door knocker provides just the right amount of bling.
We also purchased a new rug. We wanted a larger rug to more fully fit our steps. Additionally I wanted to get one with some blues in it to match the house but also introduced some other colors to the steps. After a lot of searching I found this cute birdy rug at Grandin Road and we pulled the trigger.
At this point it was just a matter of planting some flowers in some flowerpots I already had. Honestly the flowers are struggling in this heat and drought but at least it brings a little bit of color!
All I intended to re-do was the front door and steps. But after I did this I looked to the right and the empty sad little porch area broke my heart. So I had to do something with it.
I picked up the little chairs and tables at Wayfair. The orange bean bag ottoman, and rug on Amazon. Then I found the pots.
This turned into a good enough spot for now until we can spend some more time and money on the space.
Now it's a porch that screams for sunny days and lemonade.
So how did we do? Does it have a little more personality?
Some future ideas for more updates to these spaces: I am thinking about painting all the trim black on the windows and I should also paint the flowerpots black. I've debated staining the concrete a more palatable color.
It looks gorgeous. And I love the bumblebee door knocker!
